Extreme Precision LASIK

Modern LASIK

Modern LASIK has as much in common with early forms of LASIK as your smart phone has with an old brick phone. Modern laser technologies are faster and more accurate. Eye trackers make it impossible patient movement to affect the procedure. Sophisticated software plans the procedures with extreme precision. Recent, large-scale FDA studies prove it!

LASIK has been FDA approved in the United States for over 20 years. It is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the world, and is the single most studied procedure in the history of medicine. Long term results show excellent stability, night vision that is generally better than with glasses and contact lenses, and most contact lens wearers report significant improvement in dry-eye symptoms after Modern LASIK surgery. Modern LASIK is much safer than contact lenses – peer-review studies show that infections after LASIK are 90% less common than with contact lenses.

Carrot LASIK & Eye Center has the latest technologies and our US military-trained surgeons are among the most experienced eye surgeons in the world, having treated thousands of pilots and soldiers before entering private practice.

Over 2/3 of refractive surgeons have had LASIK and over 90% of refractive surgeons recommended LASIK for their immediate family. Modern LASIK is the procedure of choice for the people who know the most about it.

Carrot LASIK & Eye Center makes Modern LASIK affordable with finance options and never uses bait-and-switch pricing. Come see what modern LASIK at Carrot LASIK & Eye Center can do for you. Modern, convenient and accessible – we’re good for your eyes!

LASIK and COVID

LASIK is now more affordable than ever.

In the time of COVID, Modern LASIK helps keep you safe.

Glasses and masks do not mix – masks fog up glasses and that can be dangerous. Using tape to stop fogging can irritate skin. Masks also increase dry eyes and make contact lenses difficult or impossible to wear. People who wear glasses and contacts can also make it impossible to keep your hands away from your face.

Being free of glasses and contacts can help.

The statistics prove it. LASIK surgical volumes are up in double digits in 2020 compared to 2019 nationwide. With COVID, LASIK is no longer elective. Get LASIK, be safe!

Take the Self-Test

Am I Eligible For LASIK?

LASIK can usually eliminate the need for glasses in most people. While everyone is different and exceptions apply, LASIK is most commonly used in people between the ages of 18 and 55 years old who are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism.

LASIK is generally reserved for people whose glasses prescription has not changed for the past year. The exception is for people in their 40s and 50s, whose near vision changes every year due to a condition called “presbyopia.” Modern LASIK is often used to treat presbyopia – which is the need for reading glasses after the age of 45 or so – using “blended vision.” Determining whether LASIK is right for you is only possible after a complete “Advanced Ocular Analysis.”

Unlike many “LASIK Centers”, at Carrot we have expert surgeons in all forms of refractive surgery procedures. We fit the procedure to the patient, and do not try to force a “one-size-fits-all” solution. LASIK is one of several procedures offered at Carrot LASIK & Eye Center. Others include SMILE, PRK, ICLs, and various forms of Lens Based Refractive Surgery (LBRS) including Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), the Intraocular Contact Lens (ICL) and refractive cataract surgery.

One of the key advances with Modern LASIK is being able to determine who are the best candidates before the procedure and offering other options to those who are not. This is only possible with an Advanced Ocular Analysis (AOA), which we like to describe as the best eye exam you will ever have. Some centers do not have the advanced technology needed to perform an AOA exam. We believe it is necessary and every patient at Carrot LASIK & Eye Center receives one so we can make the best recommendation for each person.

Some people are not candidates for LASIK because of certain conditions, such as keratoconus or macular disease. If that applies to you there may be alternatives. At Carrot we have all the advanced procedures and the technology and expertise to do them well.

Everyone knows that LASIK saves money over time. How much does it save? You can estimate your savings with our LASIK Calculator. The average savings for a 21-year-old are over $18,000!

LASIK may save money over time but making LASIK affordable now is another matter. At Carrot, you know your costs before the procedure. We have a one-price policy and never use bait-and-switch tactics. We also provide the drops needed for after surgery as part of the procedure cost, which can cost several hundred dollars at the pharmacy. At Carrot LASIK & Eye Center, there are no hidden costs.

We also offer several financing options with excellent terms – including no interest for up to two years – and higher approval rates than other programs.

The earlier you have LASIK the longer the benefits. Don’t let money stand between you and a better life.

LASIK and Moms

Mothers are special people.

New moms are very special—and caring for babies and toddlers is hard enough without having to worry about glasses. Babies love to grab things and glasses are often within reach. New moms don’t have time for glasses!

There have been many studies about LASIK and pregnancy. LASIK during pregnancy is not recommended – there are too many changes happening throughout the body during pregnancy and drops and other medications are best avoided. Once pregnancy and nursing are finished it its very common for mothers to have LASIK. Being able to see without glasses makes it easier and safer to care for children and removes a major hassle from a busy mother’s day.

LASIK and JOBS

Carrot surgeons trained in the military and performed many of those procedures!

The US Military declared unaided vision essential and started the Warfighters Refractive Surgery Program (WRESP) in 2005. Since that time nearly 1 million sailors, soldiers, pilots and marines have undergone LASIK. Carrot surgeons Drs. Hammond and Herion trained in the military and performed many of those procedures!

Unaided vision is essential for many occupations. First-responders, athletes, people in the performing arts, drivers, pilots (with appropriate clearance) and any job that requires quality, unaided vision benefit from LASIK.

Glasses and contacts can hold you back and LASIK makes you more competitive. Get LASIK, do more!

What is Modern LASIK?

Modern LASIK surgery uses lasers to gently reshape the front surface of the eye (the “cornea”) to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, much like putting a contact lens prescription onto the eye itself. The procedure is quick, painless and heals quickly. Most people say they can’t believe how easy it is to have LASIK and often ask why they didn’t do it sooner.

Preparing for LASIK takes longer than having the procedure itself. Every patient at Carrot Eye center undergoes a complete Advanced Ocular Analysis (AOA), where advanced digital imaging and other technologies are used to precisely examine the eye. Every patient meets one-on-one with the operating surgeon to review the exam and discuss treatment options. Once the decision is made to proceed, advanced software is used to personalize the treatment for each eye.

Carrot LASIK & Eye Center is fully committed to Modern LASIK. This includes performing an AOA on every patient, using state-of-the-art surgical planning software, having the most modern and advanced lasers, and tracking clinical outcomes on every case. Our outcomes show the results – virtually every patient operated has vision after LASIK that was at least as good – and usually better – than they had wearing glasses and contact lenses beforehand.

No shots or IV’s are required for surgery – the eye is numbed with drops and the procedure is very comfortable. The eyelids are supported by a gentle instrument that prevents blinking. You simply look at the light and the lasers and surgeons take it from there.

Modern LASIK surgery involves two lasers. The first laser is used to create a very thin “flap” just below the surface. This laser that makes the flap uses a very fine, focused beam with rapid pulses that last only femtoseconds long (quadrillionths of a second). The femtosecond lasers are amazingly fast and accurate. The flap is lifted, and the second “excimer” laser is used to shape the prescription onto the eye. The excimer laser uses very small (< 1 mm) pulses of light to painlessly shape the cornea, after which the flap is replaced. LASIK does its work beneath the top surface, and by leaving the surface undisturbed the eye heals very quickly and with minimal discomfort.

People commonly worry that they will move or “mess up the procedure.” This cannot happen. The femtosecond “flap” laser holds the eye in place with a gentle suction device. The excimer “LASIK” laser users an eye tracker to follow the eye and aim the laser with a precision that is measured in microns (thousands of a meter). It is not possible to “miss.” If there is too much movement the laser simply stops firing and resumes when everything is back in place. Early lasers did not have these advantages – Modern LASIK removes the worry completely.

With Modern LASIK you are awake, alert and comfortable. Your vision does not dim” during the procedure and you won’t feel the laser at all. Modern LASIK is quick, painless and very accurate. It is as different from early LASIK as modern cell phones are from early technologies. As it should be – these are your eyes!

Is LASIK Permanent?

Long term studies show that LASIK provides permanent vision correction. Eyes and vision are stable in the vast majority of adults. In a small percentage of people, the underlying condition can continue deteriorate, in which case an “enhancement” procedure is performed to bring vision back into focus.

As noted above, LASIK puts your eyeglass prescription onto the eye so you can see clearly for distance. As part of Carrot LASIK & Eye Center’s “Vision for a Lifetime” program, we will map your vision progression far into the future. As people age into their 40s and 50s, the “crystalline lens” inside the becomes lager and stiffer, losing its ability to focus for near, in a condition called presbyopia. Distance vision is unaffected. When this develops, we have other procedures to offer – some of which include Modern LASIK. You can read more about presbyopia treatment options here.

LASIK Recovery

What is the recovery for Modern LASIK surgery?

The Modern LASIK surgery procedure takes around 15 minutes for both eyes and you will see results immediately. Most people read the clock across the room when they sit up after the procedure. After the procedure we provide sunglasses and ask that you take a nap to allow the eyes to rest. Shields are provided for sleep for the first few days.

At Carrot LASIK & Eye Center, we require every patient to return the next day to be examined. Most people return to work the day after surgery (depending on the job) with the main limitation to avoid rubbing your eyes and exposing them to dusty and dirty conditions. You can shower and bathe normally and can resume swimming 2 weeks after surgery. Follow-up visits are performed at one week, at one, three and six months after surgery, and every year thereafter. “I had eye surgery under Dr. Herion’s care. The procedure was quick, efficient and painless. The day after I could see 20/15 and had no pain or discomfort through the healing process. The results were better than I expected.

The receptionists and Doctor assistants are all very kind and helpful. They smile as they welcome you in and clarify exactly what to expect on your visit. Not to mention I never waited more than 5 minutes to see Dr. Herion.

Dr. Herion is by far one of the most personable and knowledgeable doctors I have ever met. His clear and concise direction and compassionate attitude reassured me that I was in good hands and the results speak for themselves.”
