I was able to discover this eye center after reading some fantastic reviews. I have chosen to give this eye center a chance. I was blown away at how high tech this place was. All the infrastructure is up to date. I felt like a child in a candy shop with all of this technology I’ve never seen before in an ophthalmologist’s office. Dr. Herion was really experienced and professional at explaining everything he noticed in my eyes. All the workers are polite and supportive. I’ve certainly found my favorite eye center office!

Glaucoma

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a condition caused by increased fluid build-up in the front of your eye. As the build-up of fluid increases the pressure in your eye, it damages the optic nerve, which diminishes your vision, worsening over time. Glaucoma is thought to be caused by age-related, lifestyle, and genetic factors.

How do I know if I have Glaucoma?

One of the reasons why you can feel at ease at Carrot LASIK & Eye Center is the assurance that we only use cutting-edge technology to diagnose complex issues like glaucoma. This includes the Haag-Streit Visual Field Test, Zeiss OCT, Pentacam® HD topographer, and Haag-Streit slit lamps, used during your glaucoma screening to develop a comprehensive understanding of your eye health.

Different Types of Glaucoma

Our experienced team can treat a variety of glaucoma-related eye conditions to help all of our patients achieve the best vision possible.

Open-angle glaucoma is one of the main types of glaucoma and often doesn’t show any symptoms at all. Symptoms of open angle-glaucoma include:

  • Gradual loss of peripheral (side) vision in both eyes
  • Tunnel vision in the later stages

Acute angle-closure is the other common type of glaucoma and must be treated immediately. Its symptoms are:

  • Intense eye pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Halos
  • Reddening of the eye

We also treat a condition called ocular hypertension, which occurs when your eye pressure is higher than normal but hasn’t damaged your optic nerve. If you have ocular hypertension, you’re at an increased risk for developing glaucoma and should seek treatment immediately to avoid irreversible vision loss.

Glaucoma Treatment Options

While glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, the good news is with early detection and treatment, vision loss can be prevented. At Carrot LASIK & Eye Center, we build your glaucoma treatment based on your unique needs, while using the most advanced technology and methods available.

In less severe case, we use medical eye drops to manage your glaucoma. When taken routinely as prescribed, these drops can reduce your eye pressure.

Depending on how far your condition has progressed, we may suggest a glaucoma surgery called SLT, a painless procedure that lowers your eye pressure by helping fluid in your eye drain more efficiently. At Carrot LASIK & Eye Center, we also employ a more aggressive laser known as the Cyclo G6™ which is used for more severe cases. We also offer Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery, or MIGS for those cases requiring surgical management.

Because you’re offered multiple paths to treatment at Carrot LASIK & Eye Center, we can build a plan to manage your current symptoms and prevent future symptoms from arising, no matter the stage or severity of your condition.

What is Recovery like for Glaucoma Surgery?

The recovery for glaucoma surgery is usually around 2-4 weeks depending on the specifics of your procedure. While most patients can return to their usual activities shortly after their surgery, we advise that you wait until total healing in your eye has occurred before starting a rigorous exercise routine.

“It was my first time going to this eye center. Dr. Hammond was wonderful- great exam and very nice. Technicians knew what they were doing. Top technology. Even got my glasses there. Highly recommend!”
